Mr Sunrise
Hey, Mr Sunrise won’t you leave a little light by my door?
I have been sitting here alone in the darkness like before,
I need you to lead me to your brand new dawn,
Out of the shadows, into your warmth.
Hey, Mr Sunrise how you give everything new life,
Your waves of light wash over them so bright,
Won’t you let them wash over me too?
To take away my fears, a baptism anew.
Hey, Mr Sunrise won’t you leave a little light by my door,
I have been sitting in the darkness waiting for you to call,
Today is the day when I make it on my own,
With you to light up my way, I am going home.
(Instrumental)
Today is the day when I make it on my own,
With you to light up my way, I am going home.

This is another one of my early songs that came to me quite quickly when playing my guitar one day. I was 23 years old and studying for a master’s degree at a University in Wales at the time. I used to play my guitar in the evenings to relax and unwind from a long day’s study.
My musical friend Gianni, from Florence and I worked out an arrangement for two guitars and voice. We performed this song in the folk clubs of North Wales and at a few parties in Florence! Happy days 🙂
This song is a simple celebration of the sun. I love to feel the warm rays on my skin, its light lifts my soul and spirit. This is also a joyful recognition of learning to be independent as a young adult while acknowledging my roots at home. I hope you enjoy it.
