The Trainspotting Song or Locomotive Love.

The Trainspotting Song…or Locomotive Love

The wind was blowing down the high street, there was music in the air,

Janice and George were walking hand in hand,

The people stopped and stared.

Janice turned to George and she said “Oh, I think the time is right.

Please won’t you take me down to the station tonight”

Janice and George were two trainspotters, they wore his and hers anoraks,

You can see them sitting on the platform

Watching the trains rolling down the tracks,

And into their notebooks every number they would write,

And you may find them sometime, somewhere on a platform tonight,

Wooo wooo trainspotting!  Watching our lives going down the tube,

Woo wooo trainspotting!  I wanna get locomotive with you,

George said to Janice, “Oh the intercity from Holyhead is due in at nine”,

Janice replied, “Well I haven’t seen that train here for a very, long, long time,

We could take our thermos flasks and our marmalade sandwiches,

If you take me down to the station we could sit on the bridge.”

So George and Janice arrived just as the tannoy, the tannoy began to chime,

“The intercity from Holyhead is approaching platform one

and is running right on time”

George turned to Janice and said, “Will you marry me next week?

We could move to Crewe and our lives will be complete.”

Wooo wooo trainspotting!  Watching our lives going down the tube,

Woo wooo trainspotting!  I wanna get locomotive with you,

Janice and George were married on a sunny, Saturday afternoon in June,

Then they went down to St. Pancras station for a short honeymoon,

After they moved to Crewe, you can guess what happened then,

Came the patter of tiny feet of mini spotters Beryl and Ben,

Now you can see the whole family in their matching anoraks,

Noting down the number of each train as it rolls down the tracks,

And so ends my tale of a match made in heaven above,

The story of Janice and George and their locomotive love,

Wooo wooo trainspotting!  Watching our lives going down the tube,

Woo wooo trainspotting!  I wanna get locomotive with you,

Well, what can I say about this song? It is a simple little ditty that is self-explanatory. Even trainspotters fall in love. With the development of High-Speed Rail Links proposed across the UK, this much-loved pastime could be endangered.  I feel a Save the Trainspotter campaign coming on…or how about a Trainspotters Popular Front?
