Hello friends,
When I picked up a guitar for the first time at 22 years of age and began to teach myself how to play, “Where have all the flowers gone?” was one of the first folk songs I learned. I have not sung and played this song for many years but the lyrics and melody seem more relevant today than ever, with conflicts raging round the world, coupled with climate and environmental emergencies precipitated by human activity right now.
Pete Seeger wrote this song, having penned the lyrics with Joe Hickerson and released it in 1955. Apparently, he found inspiration for the lyrics from a Cossack folk song called “Koloda Duda”, he also borrowed an Irish lumberjack melody and the first three verses and added to them.
I hope you enjoy my cover version of this modern folk classic.
Thanks for watching and listening!
Peace, love and light,
Sarah x
